As usual, it was a great day to be on the water today and though the temperature above the water was about zero, it was slightly warmer in the water and the winter sturgeon took their usual time to wake up.
When they did, and we found the right spot, the bite came on and the action was steady but you had to be quick on the draw as the bites are usually light and fast.
They can still be feisty though! And making sure you are wearing gloves when handling them is still a must!
The battle can still be a challenge as there are some large fish around and they can be real "gut busters" which means, if you don't hold the rod butt properly it can bust you in the gut or in a spot lower down that will leave you really winded, to put it politely!
In the end, persistence and a smile will win out and you can have a really good time. So, if you wanna learn how to unwrap a sturgeon this Christmas or early in the new year, give us a call. And to all of you, Merry Christmas and a fishfull New Years!
