Today was a great day to be on the water and river fishing was just plain fun! We headed up to the Squamish/Mamquam Rivers and there was definitely no shortage of pinks. With the right fly and sink tip combo it was pretty easy to hook up between 10 and 15 fish per hour. The Squamish will close for pinks on Sept. 15, 2013 unless DFO extends the opening. The Fraser run of pinks is still to peak and the DFO upgraded the run again to estimate 26,000,000 returns. Opportunities to wet the fly and heat up the barbeque at the end of the day will be plenty for the next few weeks. The Fraser has also been opened for Chinooks so there should still be some reds and and growing number of the huge white springs. Some will arrive in the Vedder very soon and the Harrison River. A 35 to 40 pounder on a fly line is a freight train experience! |
