It's not always just about fishing but catching fish does help.  Given the colder weather and snow on the peaks it is a banner year for skiers and for winter trout fishing.  Some steel-head are trickling in with the Vedder still in the lead.  Salmon fry are still a few weeks away since the colder water results in fewer degree days so it takes longer to hatch.  In case you were not sure what a degree day means, it is the number days times the degrees centigrade that the water reaches. Salmon (and trout) eggs need a certain number of degree days to hatch.

The colder the water the longer the time needed to reach the required number of degree days.  So, that said, unless it really warms up and it may do that next week, the fry hatch may keep the trout (bulls, cutties, and rainbows) a little tougher to find.

Anyways, we had a great time in the mid to upper Squamish as my buddy Ernst learned the finer points of fly fishing and nature interpretation (which you will see if you watch the video.  Anyways....tight lines!

Hi Peter, I know fishing is not just a fishing it is more than that. I found your Fraser river experience related to finer points of fly fishing and nature interpretation very interesting. Keep posting the great stuff.
