Also found a paddle under a branch on the upper level of the bank.....A sign that the Squamish can change it's temper very fast and be unforgiving......so when the river color changed because of the rain, I decided to cross back over and not push my luck......You can be lucky lots of times......it only needs one time to be unlucky.
Was a great day to head out onto the Squamish. The forecast was for rain and it was likely that most people would stay away and that was the case. Heading up the valley was great. Even had time to stop for a coffee and just let the rain fade a bit before heading to the gravel. A new sign was put up....perhaps you saw the video of the grizzly chasing the kayaker??? It was cool and lucky the guy could paddle fast! The rain had dampened and cooled the forest and re-charged the water falls so the scenery was great! Little did I know that the water would eventually change but before it did I was able to check out some old spots to see what if anything was stirring. Though the water looked good fishing was sketchy. Did find some pretty big spawned out carcasses from some spring salmon, so that was encouraging......maybe a few more years will develop a good run of springs. Been working on my latest video - "Squamish Bull Trout - Directors Cut" for a few months and finally finished it. Hope you like it........Cheers and tight lines!

Every hear of the expression, "Put your $ where your mouth is"???? As outdoor enthusiasts we can sometimes be long on the complaining side and short on the action side when it comes to protecting our environmental resources. So, that has to change and we have to also support those who are fighting in the political arena to protect those very things we all hold so dear.....good hunting and fishing opportunities. I have been slow in updating this blog over the last few months since I have decided to take the bull by the horns and run for political office. Over the summer I have been building a campaign team to seek and win the nomination for the Federal Conservative Party in the riding of North Vancouver. To do this I need to sign up as many people as possible who live in the riding and then get them to come out and vote for me in the Nomination meeting which will likely be late October or November 2018. I was at the Conservative National Convention in Halifax and met many other conservative members of Parliament and candidates who are enthused about protecting the environment and keeping our economy going. There is a lot of work to be done but the basic thing in this first step is to win the nomination and then work as a candidate in the 2019 federal election to win a Conservative majority government. To be a strong voice for our environment, our hunting and fishing opportunities I really need sports men and women to get involved.
1) Let everyone you know that lives in North Vancouver that if they are Canadian Citizens, or permanent residents, 14 years and older that they can sign up at the Conservative web site and then vote for me at the nomination. 2) Let everyone you know that they can also support my campaign financially. 3) Send my campaign web site link www.votepeterkrahn.com to your friends and acquaintences. 4) Send the sign up link of www.conservative.ca to your friends and acquaintences so they can also sign up to support me. Together, if we work hard, we can make a difference to support our wilderness, fisheries, hunting and outdoor resources. I need your support and all of us need to take action. Thankyou So, I have been very quiet on the postings as of late, since I am embarking on a new effort to help our Environmental and Fisheries Resources. You will see that info in the next post. For this one I just want to celebrate the fact that we did eventually get both an in River and Marine Sockeye fishery on the Fraser and in the salt water around the mouth. The sockeye run peaked around August 20th to 25th and thereafter it is hard to say if the run continued or it was just hammered by the net fisheries in both the Saltwater and in river. Needless to say, there were not many fish left in the Fraser for the sport fishermen on the Labour Day weekend as there were multiple net fisheries that sucked up all the stock. Finally I was able to celebrate a couple of days off and especially fun to get out with family and friends to enjoy the simple pleasure of casting and actually catching sockeye. I was particularly pleased to get out with my good friend and colleague in Environmental Protection, Bambang. He just retired from the Indonesian Department of Environment and flew out from Jakarta to join me on the river. It was his first experience salmon fishing and he just had a great time. That is what it is all about and why we have to fight hard to preserve the fishery.......The video below is a tribute to my friend and good times. And the reason I am slow on loading updates is because I am embarking on a new career endeavor. Yes, I am seeking the nomination to the Federal Conservative Party of Canada for the riding of North Vancouver. Yes, this is severely cutting into my fishing time, but the goal of protecting our environmental and fisheries resources is worth it. You can check out my other web site, www.votepeterkrahn.com below. If you know anyone in North Vancouver who could support me, please refer them to my new web site and also sign up at www.conservative.ca to become a member and vote for me at the nomination meeting in North Vancouver later this Fall. In order for me to win the nomination a person must reside in North Vancouver, be a citizen of Canada or a permanent Resident and be 14 years or older. So please, refer my contact info to anyone you know in the Riding of North Vancouver.
